Vocational Service in Rotary focuses on promoting high ethical standards in business and professions, recognizing the value of all occupations, and using professional skills to serve society. In our club, the Vocational Service Committee oversees the Classification Talks, and the Earl Cruzen Scholarship at South Seattle College.
Vocational Service is fun because it brings together people, professions, friendships, and purpose! It gives Rotarians an opportunity to learn from one another, share their talents, and make a difference in creative and meaningful ways.

January is Vocational Service Month, so for one meeting we would like to have a speaker or activity focused on Ethics in Business, if possible, on AI.  UW has two speakers listed that cover ethics in business.

Environmental Sustainability: Alex Modelski, Chair

Our current project is the Native Pollinator Garden Project. We are anticipating joining a partner to help clean up the Duwamish and Puget Sound, which may involve paddling kayaks and other activities around those waterways. We are also gearing up to organize our members to help restore Schmitz Park and to help tear out invasive plants. Future activities may include :

  • Protecting and restoring land, coastal, marine, and freshwater resources
  • Enhancing the capacity of communities to support natural resource management and conservation
  • Supporting sustainable agriculture, fishing, and aquaculture practices
  • Addressing the cause of climate change by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases
  • Strengthening ecosystems and communities affected by climate change
  • Supporting education initiatives that promote behavior that protects the environment
  • Advocating for sustainable consumption to build an economy that uses resources more efficiently
  • Addressing environmental public health concerns
